The Turin SD40 V2 is a single dose grinder that uses bellows and a tilted base to reduce retention. It has 40mm stainless steel conical burrs and a sturdy aluminum body. Version 2 is very similar to version 1, but has improved burrs and a adjustment dial sticker that has been updated.
Most grinders in the price range of this grinder are made with plastic, smaller burrs, ceramic burrs and are not very well built and have high retention. This grinder is well built with mostly metal construction and low retention. We are excited to be the exclusive US importer for this product and we think it will do very well when compared to other grinders in it’s price range. It compares well against the Breville Smart grinder, Ascaso grinders, Baratza grinders, Fellow grinders, and blade grinders. In terms of noise level it is quieter than a lot of the grinders in it's price range.

Have had this grinder for two weeks. Love it. Relatively quiet. Low retention of grounds after giving the bellows a couple of quick pumps. Easy to switch back and forth between espresso and pour over settings. Doesn't create a huge mess. Occasionally need to shack it a little to get all the beans through.
I read a review of one of the Turin grinders and was impressed. I have been a fan of Baratza products for a long time because of their pricing and service policies, but not so much the build quality of their products. what I was most struck with in the descriptions of Turin products was their rugged build and their their pricing. I bought my SD 40 V2 so that I could see for myself what Turin grinders are all about. I have been extremely impressed with the simple very rugged build quality, almost entirely metal, and with both the grind quality and the noise level. it is fast and quiet and it isn't "rackety" when grinding, probably in great part to the lack of plastic parts. I wish the website made clear that on the V 2 only the wood bellows cap is available, and that the motor is 150 watts, rather than 180 watts. It would also be nice if a grind settings guide was provided giving suggested grind settings for the various popular coffee prep. methods, like aeropresws, v 60, French press. It is overall a really nice little grinder.
Being completely new to making espresso, I really don't have much to compare this grinder to. However, the ease of use and the quality of the build have been very impressive so far. The Turin SD40 gives a consistent grind and has provided me exactly what I was looking for. Absolutely no regrets with this purchase.
